The newest hot shot in the skincare and it girl world is yet another Hailey Bieber invention - Rhode's Barrier Butter. This thick cream is made to be used as the final step in your nighttime skincare routine to seal your other products and keep your skin moisturized and buttery. Rhode is all about hydration and improving your skin barrier; this latest product is nothing but that. But is it a skincare fad, or is it actually worth the hype? This is tigg's honest trial and review so you can decide if you should actually buy this product or if Rhode just has a really good marketing team. Or both (it's probably both).
"An intensive moisture balm for deep hydration overnight. Our buttery-smooth formula is a supercharged addition to your nighttime routine. It helps strengthen the skin barrier and seal in moisture for up to 24 hours*—restoring skin's natural softness and bounce." - Rhode
*with continued daily use
This product also comes in two sizes, a 5-ounce, and a 1.35-ounce. And I will say, it's definitely regular size vs travel size, and who actually travels with travel sized products?
"Clinically proven to improve skin hydration + skin barrier function. Supports more toned, plump skin over time. Helps reduce the appearance of fine lines. Gives an immediate and long-lasting glow" - Rhode
As someone who has used a lot of thick creams like Weleda and Cicaplast, I thought I knew what I was expecting going in. I assumed it would be thick like my Weleda cream but have a similar finish as the Cicaplast - however, I was totally wrong. First of all, I would consider this cream to be medium-thick rather than super thick. It isn't paste-y or balm-y; it feels like a really nice nourishing cream. Yet it has a bit of a light finish, which makes it feel like it isn't clogging my pores. After using it, my skin wasn't left with a white cast, and it didn't look greasy at all; it just looked moisturized and super glowy. My skin also isn't sticky, and I already don't feel dry at all after just one use. This cream is also unscented, but for some reason, the smell reminds me of Toronto - but that might just be a personal thing.
Honestly, I love this product. It's one of my new favorite creams. And I hate to say that because I was totally ready to hate this cream and for it to be average at best. I know this cream is advertised as a finishing night time product, but I'm definitely going to be using it as my everyday cream - morning and night. After using it, my skin looks and feels great, and there aren't any products on the market that I can think of and compare it to. If I had to, I would say it's a thicker version of my other favorite face cream, the Ultra Face Cream from Kiehl's.
Now, of course, the proof is in the pudding, and I want to see if this product improves redness, spots, and texture over time, but I have to use it a couple more times consistently to really see its effects. So, in honor of tigg, come back in a few days to see how the product holds up and my updated review to see if it really improves my skin over time.
I've been using the barrier butter about once a day for about a week, give or take. I didn't even really use any other products; sometimes, I couldn't even be bothered to wash my face, so I really got the use of this product alone. Occasionally, I would pair it with the glazing milk, but for the past few days, my skincare routine basically consisted of this product and this product alone. I've been struggling with my skin for about a year now, and, as someone who never really had skin problems and then suddenly wouldn't stop breaking out, I was extremely confused. And I tried everything: I got monthly facials, I exfoliated, I stopped exfoliating, I moisturized, I washed my face, I didn't wash my face, I bought all the serums, I went back to basics, I didn't eat dairy or sugar or whatever the latest wellness trend for skin was, etc, etc, etc. I basically tried everyone's advice, and no matter what, I could not fix my skin. Everytime it started to look better, boom I would break out again. I had honestly given up at this point. I figured I did something to mess up my skin, and I have to live with it now. So, when this product came out, I honestly didn't care. It was another hyped-up TikTok skincare product that influencers love but, in reality, makes everyone break out. However, I felt I had a responsibility to give an honest opinion and a fair shot for someone who has been breaking out and struggling with their skin and has tried everything else - so here it is. This product saved my skin. I can honestly tell you that since this past year of struggling with no breaking point and no results, it's been like night and day with this product. I stopped breaking out, and my current stubborn little breakouts are finally going away, and they aren't coming back. My red spots are healing, and the rest of my skin, which wasn't as troubled, is so moisturized and glowy. I don't know how I will ever live without this product again. If you are someone who has been struggling with your skin and doesn't know what is going on and nothing seems to work - give this product a try. I cannot recommend it enough, and for the first time in forever, I actually feel like my skin looks good again.
