Spring is officially here, which means I have a whole list of current obsessions for this season. Below, I’ve put together a few things that I have been super into lately that I think totally emulate springtime. There’s a bit of fashion and beauty, along with some literature recs and a playlist that will become your new go-to when you’re driving around and soaking up the fresh air and warm weather.
Low-rise leggings with a fitted bell bottom designed by Kaia Gerber are the perfect piece of loungewear to add to your wardrobe this spring. This item can be worn casually to the gym or just hanging around. But it can also be easily elevated and take you from night to day. Kaia Gerber’s sense of style is sophisticated mixed with a carefree Malibu girl, and these pants are exactly that. These will definitely be a staple pair of bottoms you will be reaching for this spring.
I have never read a book quite like Joan Didion’s The Magical Year of Thinking. There were a lot of moments when I had to put it down and sort of stare into space for a minute because the way she writes is just truly so incredible. She captures grief in such a transparent and honest way. Her writing is blunt and she doesn’t hide her feelings of anger and despair. There have been times in my life where I have dealt with loss and grief and I would turn to articles hoping for comforting advice and I would mostly get these sort of motivational quotes like “Live your life and make them proud” which always seemed so strange to me. Was anyone going to just be super honest for a minute and talk about how difficult the grieving period actually is, and how it basically never ends? I wasn’t sure someone could actually write about it. But as soon as I read the first page of The Magical Year of Thinking I felt confident that I had picked up the right book. “These people who have lost someone look naked because they think themselves invisible. I myself felt invisible for a period of time, incorporeal. I seemed to have crossed one of those legendary rivers that divide the living from the dead, entered a place in which I could be seen only by those who were themselves recently bereaved.” Joan Didion definitely gets it.
I’m such a major fan of anything by the SC Collection, which is a handmade jewelry company based out of New York. Their pieces are what I would describe as “beach glitz.” I’m currently obsessed with their Daisy Necklace, an 18” charm necklace that adds the perfect touch to any spring and summer outfit. It has gold-plated rhinestone charms, antique chunky gold chains, and a delicate clasp. Basically, it’s the necklace of my dreams. And it’s named after Daisy from The Great Gatsby, as the website tells us. How perfect is that?
Another Kaia Gerber obsession I’m bringing with me as we enter spring. But can you blame me? She’s the ultimate it girl. I recently discovered this playlist she made with Apple Music a little while ago and while it’s technically for summer, most of the songs give me spring energy. It’s a mix of old school classics with breezy rock. Think Van Morrison, Fleetwood Mac, Hall and Oates…It’s the ultimate playlist to drive around town with the windows down.
How else are you going to keep your face protected from the sun while looking cute at the same time? With a pair of sunglasses by Oliver Peoples, of course. These oversized granite sunglasses I found by them on The Real Real are so in for spring and summer.
