hello world!
@freepeople

I’ve been really into yoga lately, which is crazy to me because I never thought I would say it. But I love it. Mastering moves and getting in touch with your body is quite addictive. Somewhere in that rhythm, I started looking at old magazine clippings again. Pages from the ’90s, soft and slightly yellowed, with women like Christy Turlington in ribbed tanks and slouchy pants, mid-pose, talking about how good yoga feels. Not what it does for your body. How it settles you.

That feeling and vibe is what I’ve been thinking about when it comes to workout clothes, too.

Because the coolest workout clothes right now don’t look like sets. They look like something a dancer would throw on to warm up. Or Gwyneth Paltrow in the late ’90s, heading to the gym with Madonna. And it's a lot of fun to layer Free City sweats over leggings or double up your tank top.

The Track Pant Girl

Track pants slung low on the hips, a ribbed tank or thin tee, hair tied back without much thought. She might actually break a sweat. She might just stretch and leave. Either way, the clothes are very low-maintenance. Low effort, high reward (if you will).

There’s something very ’90s about that confidence.

Start Here: The Track Pant

If there’s one piece that defines this whole mood, it’s the track pant.

Not the shiny, tapered, brand-new kind — the softer ones. Elastic waist, straight leg, matte fabric, a little slouch through the seat. The kind that moves with you and doesn’t dictate the rest of the outfit.

I always gravitate toward classic Adidas silhouettes, older Puma cotton styles, or throwback Nike cuts that prioritize shape over compression. They sit right, wear in beautifully, and work whether you’re actually working out or just dressed as you might.

Once you have the pants, everything else becomes easy.

What Makes Them Look Right

This is less about trends and more about instinct.

You want:

  • A waistband that doesn’t cinch aggressively
  • A leg that falls straight, not tight
  • Fabric that looks dry and worn-in, not technical
  • Subtle striping, if any

The best ones don’t announce themselves. They just hang well.

If something looks like it was designed to look vintage, it usually misses the point.

The Supporting Pieces

Think warm-up clothes, not outfits.

A ribbed tank that feels almost too simple. A thin tee you’ve had forever. A slightly shrunken sweatshirt you can pull on and off. Simple trainers that don’t dominate the look. A soft bag you can actually move in.

Nothing should feel styled. Everything should feel functional — in the chicest way.

And always throw some loose sweats over your leggings.

The Takeaway

Start with the track pants. Wear them with what you already own. Let them soften, crease, loosen. If it feels slightly unfinished, you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

  • Being an it-girl isn’t about being a nepo baby or buying the shoes everyone else is buying, and I wanted to create TIGG - my digital magazine - to help show that. Here on TIGG, you can feel like an it-girl not only through reading about new outfit ideas and supermodels, but also through vintage designer finds, wellness, and lots of good food and drinks.
