Fashion is an ever-changing sport. Things go in and out of style; there are always new looks on the runways, new models, and new it-girls. But there seem to be more hats in the ring these days.

In what might have been considered the fashion golden age (the 90s), Christy Turlington, Kate Moss, Linda Evangelista, and all the other top names we all know and love ran the runways. Designers were creating the styles, Vogue was putting out the trends in their magazines, and fashion was this desirable powerhouse you could only see from outside the glass on Rodeo Drive. But has it changed? Definitely.

How has it changed? In the simplest form - it's become accessible. Social media, mass producing clothing, so trends are flying by weekly, influencers, overconsumption, or easy to shop brands like Tobi. There is a new level of wanna be - and it's starting to take over.

Arguably, the biggest and most controversial example is the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. What used to be the most-watched show of the year and was considered to have the most aspirational energy has flipped. The funny thing about their flip, though, was, does anybody actually think it was intentional? Heartfelt? Or did the podium they were standing on get pushed over from down below... And that leads me to another question - and possibly another controversial opinion - but all of this pushing and taking over, where is it coming from?

We all know where it's coming from, but at some level, is it not from a place of insecurity? Of participation trophies?

Now, I'm Switzerland, but that's just some food for thought. We've all seen trends make a circle. 90s minimalism came, went, and came back again. Dresses from the 60s, been there, done that, here we are again. Fashion is a swinging pendulum. Right now, the pendulum seems to have swung as far to the side as it can - if it swings anymore, the rope breaks and the ball falls.

So, according to physics and patterns, this pendulum will swing back. And if you go to comment sections, it seems it's starting to swing. So what does this mean? Well, I don't know. And maybe we won't know until fashion month or this year's return of the VSFS.

However, the pendulum is swinging - I mean, the Kardashians, the biggest trend followers, are already swinging with it, so it's only a matter of time until we have swung the other way.

But we can only predict the future so much. Will it be the rise of the 90s again? The rise of Gisele and Adriana Lima? Something totally new? Something totally old? How drastic will we be? Are designers, buyers, and watchers angry and want a giant change? Or have we all really evolved and don't want to go back? I guess only time and TIGG will tell.

  • Being an it-girl isn’t about being a nepo baby or buying the shoes everyone else is buying, and I wanted to create TIGG - my digital magazine - to help show that. Here on TIGG, you can feel like an it-girl not only through reading about new outfit ideas and supermodels, but also through vintage designer finds, wellness, and lots of good food and drinks.
